Fixing Luka Set Trees

Fixing Luka Key Prop

I was lucky enough to be involved in making Jessica Ashman’s short stop motion film ‘Fixing Luka’ (www.fixingluka.co.uk) for Digicult.  I created some of the props for the sets and helped to animate the pixilation sequence in the film.

I created the trees for the outdoor sets, the photos and screenshots above show some of the finished trees used in the film.  They were constructed using wire frames, covered with mod rock then textured to Jess’s design with various paper textures and paint.  The very tips of the branches were made of aluminium wire and covered with liquid latex to allow them to be animated if necessary.

The other picture above is a prop key that I created using Milliput, wire and metallic paint.  There are two versions of this key, one is the full length one, the other is a replica shorter version that is missing the end.  This is so that the key can be substituted during the animation to give the illusion that the puppet is turning it in a key hole (which is not really hollow).  There is also a screenshot showing the key being used in the film.

You can see more of Jessica Ashman’s work on her website here jessla.co.uk.  The puppets you can see here were created by the amazing model maker Judith Johnston.
